31st March 2020
Dear Colleagues and friends,
Due to the current crisis, which is accompanied by many uncertainties and travel restrictions, we have decided to postpone the Extremophiles Congress to next year.
The Extremophiles Congress has a long tradition of almost a quarter of a century. The first meeting was organized in Japan in 1996 by Prof. Horikoshi, followed by excellent meetings every two years worldwide.
It has been an honour and privilege to be part of the Extremophiles family. These meetings helped to build links and networks with many scientists and friends all over the world. Therefore, it is very sad that we will not be able to meet this year in Greece. We are, however, confident, that we will master this challenge, but we will have for sure a different world in the future (the Post Corona world). We are thankful to Konstantinos Vorgias and the local organizers for their willing to organize the meeting in September 2021 in Greece.
We hope for your understanding and let us meet next year in September 2021 in Greece. Of course we will keep you updated.
Take care and best regards
Garo Antranikian on behalf of the International Organizing Committee
Konstantinos Vorgias - Chair National Organizing Committee
Harry Atomi - President of ISE
Marco Moracci - Vice president of ISE
the Organizers, the International Society for Extremophiles, and the Hellenic National Initiative “Mikrobiokosmos” are pleased to announce the 13th International Congress on Extremophiles (Extremophiles2020). The venue will be held at the Club Hotel Casino Loutraki (https://www.clubhotelloutraki.gr/hotel/en/) from the 13th to 17th of September, 2020, in Loutraki (80 km from Athens, GREECE).
The Extremophiles2020 Congress, aims to bring into light all recent updates of basic and applied research on “life in extreme environments”. As a result, the program will include sessions in many aspects of “extremophilic research” including, among others, origin of life, ecology, astrobiology, molecular biology, physiology and biotechnology, as well as a special workshop on Mikrobiokosmos (the Hellenic Initiative for Microbial Diversity).
In parallel, the organizers aspire for Extremophiles2020 to provide a stimulus for high quality research interactions, to inspire young scientists and students through networking with senior and established scientists, and to pave the way for a bright future in this exciting field.
We kindly invite you to participate in
Extremophiles2020 and enjoy …
- a stimulating Congress
- a vivid and scenic spa resort town by the sea
- the famous Greek hospitality and cuisine
We particularly encourage young researchers to join and present their work.
We are working hard to ensure a very interesting Congress and a memorable event.
Looking forward to meet you in Loutraki!
On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee,
Professor Constantinos Vorgias
